On our way to Colorado

July 3rd: bright weather! Carol and Rollie saw us off to Manitowoc Airport. There was ready our Cessna 172, N4315R, a 1973 Skyhawk, 160 hp. We planned to fly west to Fort Collins north of Denver, where hopefully we might meet my son Joop, who will be arriving there on Saturday. After that we want to rent a car and camp in the Rocky Mountains National Park.

Ready to go!

Cecilia keeps the track on the sectional and punches in the different frequencies. We cross the Mississippi river South of La Crosse. After 2.5 hour we make our first stop at Charles City Regional Airport Restroom, fuel ($ 5.35 a gallon), and a pilot with his selfbuilt RV8, USAFstyle. Wow!

We make a second stop just west of the Missouri River, in Wayne. (Remember John Wayne? He has nothing to do with this. Friendly people there who help us to refuel and tie down the Cessna. The old Sheriffs car is our courtesycar. We have a late lunch/dinner and find rest in a nearbye Super 8 motel. Tomorrow we hope to see the Rockies!
