Friday, 20th, back to Johnson Creek

After breakfast we fly again through and over the mountains to a local airport, McCalls to refuel and Dave and I do some shopping.
I try to contact Cécilia with my cellphone, but I seem to be out of reach here. So I buy some phonecards to use in Johnson Creek.

Here Steve Johnson in his Cub flying near us.

Johnson Creek from the top, noon June 20th. One aircraft is just landing.

Chris, in his yellow Cub, is flying with us.

B Ranch breakfast

In a loose formation we fly in loose formation to the B-ranch

Loose formation over the mountains.

We are picked up by a van and taken to the ranch.

We had a very good meal: pancakes, eggs, fruit, cream. My pilot Dave was soon making new friends with amazones. Steve Johnson takes a picture for the website.

Friday 20th, going out for breakfast

We decided to fly to B Ranch to get a good breakfast! There is a line up of several hungry Cubdrivers.

One after the other takes off!

Who will fly with whom? My British co-European member of SuperCub.org gets an invitation to fly with Steve Johnson.
So David (with bike on picture) will also get his morning meal.

On this picture below we can just see a glance of Johnson Creek before we fly to B Ranch
Thursday morning we start from Trustee Airport
to fly over the desert and into the mountains. Three hours of nomansland.

Just one car we see during that time.

Here we arrive at Mountain Home. Refuel, restroom and then
to Johnson Creek.

From Sacramento to Trustee

June 19th, 07 AM. Dave gets out his SuperCub and we depart from Stockton CA to Trustee, CA.
First leg to Johnson Creek.

We start at 20 ft above sealevel to get over the mountains at 9000 ft.
It will take us about 1 hour to get to Lake Tahoe and first airport Trustee.

Dave has a surpise for me: we get very low (0 ft) over Lake Tahoe to clean his bushwheel tires.

Here you can see the water spraying as we hit the lake.

Then we get over the mountain into Trustee Airport.
Very nice!

From Oosterland to Wisconsin and California

Tuesday, June 17th, Cécilia en Reint head for the States. Friend Marie Anne brought us to the railwaystation in Roosendaal where we boarded the train for Brussels. After 8 hours we set foot on Dulles Airport in Washington DC, and after some more time we reached our destination Chicago. First we got our compact rental, though more expensive than we had counted on. The insurance was more than the whole rental fee! Anyhow, in the USA one needs a car! Then we had a good rest in a hotel near O'Hare Airport.

Wednesdaymorning our roads split. Cécilia headed for Whitelaw, Wisconsin. I took a ride to O'Hare again to board USAIR4
to Sacramento, California .

There I met Dave Kirsten, from Lodi CA. We only had email communications before! He had offered me a ride in his SuperCub from Sacramento to the Johnson Creek Fly In, Idaho. Dave is one of the initiators and organizers.
We loaded my few bags in his pickup truck, and off we went to Lodi. Dave invited me to watch the softball game he would be playing with his friends, among who also Mark, his son.

In Holland I had forgotten my sleeping bag, and Mark lent me his , after we had a good dinner in a local restaurant, where they also brew the famous Lodi Beer. After some work done at Dave Kirstens office (see http://www.kirsten.com) we went home where I was welcomed by Daves wife. I had a shower and went to bed.

Day two

At 08.45 Cécilia drove off to Whitelaw, where she was warmly greeted by Carol and Rollie. Reint went back to O'Hare airport to board a plan to Sacramento, via Phoenix Arizona.
At 16.00 LT he met Dave Kirsten. At the moment sits Reint in the office of the Kirsten company, to type this blog. Tomorrow early both will fly Daves Cub to Johnson Creek, via Lake Tacoma. Surprise, surprise and more to come.
To prepare Reint for the Fly In he received from Dave in person his DQ-Amnesty Card.
Tomorrow and the days after there will be no computer but just SuperCubs, good flying weather, lots of talk about flying, airplanes and beer and maybe Marguarita's.

First day: we are off!

With this 777 we rode from Brussels to Washington DC. And then in the same seats after two hours waiting, in 90 minutes to Chicago O'Hare. There we picked up our rental compact economy car and after some time we found our reserved hotelroom.

Today we split: Cecilia will drive to Wisconsin and meet Carol and Rollie. Reint will fly on the Sacramento to meet Dave. Hopefully Thursday the weather is so good that Reint can join him in the SuperCub to fly to Johnson Creek Idaho to experience the SuperCub Fly In there.
