Wisconsin week, more!

Cecilia finds a dead bunting, and buries it in the garden.

Countrylife: Bonnie brings loads of strawberries. Strawberries forever!

July 1st we make a trip to Sheboygan and we have a mighty good lunch at Mucky Duck's at the Waterfront.

Also we see the beachfront! And we make preparations to make our own trip to the Rocky Mountains.
I was checked out on a Cessna 172 at Lakefrond Aviation, Manitowoc, and we will leave for Colorado.
On July 2nd the weather is bad: storm and rain, so we leave July 3rd.

Flying in Wisconsin

Also a week with flying. Rollie and Carol enjoyed flying out together from their own strip. I was invited to go along with Rollie on a half hour trip to New Holstein. There we met Bozz, ate some smoked white fish, got back over the flooded land. I filmed that, but Cecilia made this picture as we were taking off that Sundaymorning.

All of a sudden: someone is buzzing us! Arly in his J3. He landed it was nice to meet again as we usually see him during the New Holstein SuperCub Fly In.

Arly concentrates on putting his headset right before he takes off again before dark, to go to his own airstrip, 10 minutes away.

Rollie props ARly's J3.

Arly buzzing the house!

Wisconsin week

So many things to do, once in Whitelaw: shopping in the Wall Mart.

Driving in Rollies Model A Ford (California style) to have a full wheat toast breakfast in Kellers.

Have lots of fun in Petersboro doing squaredance. Cecilia was invited to play along with her violin.

An Cecilia takes out the dogs for a run on the estate. She goes all the way to the Branch river, where they have a splash.

Monday, June 23rd, Stay over in KC

That Monday I phoined Cecilia that I was going to stay over
one day with Steve. I had to chill out from the mountains, the flight back to Kansas City and the night flying as the last part of it. It is so much fun, I had to digest it all before I could move on.

Nightflight in N994CC SuperCub... I was invited to lunch by Steves brother in law Roger and his friend Dan. We had a very good meal! All my insides were working so good, that once at home I had to go to the bathroom and have an enthusiastic bowel movement. Again Steve - you remember Steve: www.supercub,org - got me in an very inexpensive way on a flight to Milwaukee the next day.

Clouds clearing from Midwest KCI to Milwaukee. Once there I was warmly greeting bij Cecilia - remember Cecilia? We travelled together from Brussels to Chicago - and our friends Carol and Rollie. We had a good breakfast on the road at a family steakhouse, and once in Whitelaw we reunited in front of Carol and Rollies fresh wallpainting, respresenting their PA11 flying out from the hangar on their land.

Sunday 22nd, Part Two

This was the weather that was building up. Because we had a strong tailwind, we had good hope to evade the storm by running out on it.
Steve took over, so after six hours flying I could relax a bit.

manoevred

But when the turbulence got hold of us, we went down quite low to be able to land as quick as possible if necessary.

We couldn't have done what we did if Steve didn't have his Garmin 496 available: with almost actual weather information.
Here one can see how we maneuvred between the built ups.

After a battle of two hours we came in smooth air again: at 22.45 we landed at Noah's Ark, Steves homefield, just South of Kansas City International Airport. We unloaded the plane, and rode to Steves house, after getting ourselves some burger on the way.
The last leg set a new record for Steve (and me): 5 hours and 35 minutes from Laramie to KC. And we felt great!

Sunday, June 22nd, Part One, back east with Steve

Sunday, 6.45, everything packed in Steves SuperCub, we flew North to Cascade to fuel up. Then South. Steve flew us out of the mountains. Then we changed places I got the honor to fly past the Great Salt Lake, thru the canyon at Ogden, and we followed the Interstate 80 for a long way. We had a short break at a local McDonald and we moved on: we wanted to be in Kansas City that evening. We had a good tailwind: some 30 mhp. We saw breathtaking landscapes.

No mans land for sure. We stuck to the interstate!

This is me in the canyon , so narrow that I had to dip nose to se the Interstate below!

Then I made a smooth landing at Laramie Airport. We fuelled up, wanted to take a brake, and then we heard a burts of thunder.
I said: 'Tie her down?' But Steve answered: 'No, let's get the hell out of here!' And so we did.

Saturday, June 21st: Dave Kirsten proposed to sleep in a proper bed, and so we did!
We flew Friday evening to a nearbye valley, and rented a room and two real beds with Brook and Dan.

The next morning we flew out again, and landed on the most barren airstrips I have ever seen.
Dave did a great job guiding me in this completely new environment. I have the serious notion to do a proper mountain before doing any solo flying in mountains like here!

Here the devastation caused by the bushfires last year as the rage now in Northern California!

But we saw also wonderful sights like the snow on the mountains.
Saturdaynight there was a raffle: 1st prize a set of big Alaska Bush Tires!
And a Garmin 296 gps. Not for me, I won a calendar with beautiful lady ...
Anyhow, this time I slept in the tent. The next day I was going early back east, with Steve Johnson in his SuperCub!
